Day 01: LOMBOK

Upon arrival at Lombok International Airport, our guide will welcome you then transfer to the hotel. Lombok it is a natural collection of contrasts and diversity, there are mountains, stunning coastline, traditional villages, charming people, and the incredible underwater world. As a tourist destination, Lombok is different from Bali, and is unique in itself. In Lombok one can find aspects of Balinese life but not vice-versa in the case of Bali. In the western part of Lombok, Hinduism and Islam co-exist. The natives of Lombok, the Sasaks, are Muslim, and their art and religious life are quite different from those of their Hindu neighbours. The name “Lombok” is said to come from a fiery red chilli pepper, used as condiment in Indonesia. The island measures about 80 km north to south and about 70 km east to west. Lombok is dominated by 3,726-metre Mount Rinjani, Indonesia’s second highest volcano and one of the highest points in the archipelago. Balinese Hindus and Sasak Muslims consider it sacred and make pilgrimage to its peak and lake to leave offerings for the Gods. The mountain also has climatic significance. Its peak attracts a steady swirl of clouds which shower the valley and feed a tapestry of rice paddies, tobacco fields, cashew and mango trees, banana and coconut palms.

Day 02: LOMBOK

Early morning transfer to Sembalun Lawang (1,156m). After registration and briefing start your Mount Rinjani hiking. Hiking to the rim, lake and peak is challenging and requires a considerably high level of fitness. Climbing Rinjani during the wet season (November to March) is not at all advisable, the national park office often completely forbids access to Rijani for the first three months of each year. Between June and August there’s minimal rain and few clouds, but come prepared with warm cloths because it gets extremely cold at the summit. From Sembalun Lawang until your first rest point (base camp Pemantauan, 1,300m) there will be gentle ascent walking through open meadows, afterwards the route is rougher. Continue you hike to the next stations (Tangengean, 1,500m; Pada Balong 1,800m) until your overnight camp base at the crater rim (Plawangan II Sembalun 2,639 m).

Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner

After breakfast you will descend to the Lake Segara Anak (2,000 m) located within the Rinjani crater. Here you can also see, rising from the lake’s shores, Mount Baru, an active volcano which only emerged a couple of hundred years ago. You may enjoy exploring caves and swimming in the lake. There are also natural hot springs which are believed to have healing power; locals suffering from skin diseases come here with medicinal herbs to bathe and scrub.
